Successful Tests of New Russian Rocket Engine

New Russian liquid-fuel rocket engine 14D23/RD-0124A, built for “Soyuz-2-16” rocket carrier, passed first tests, conditions of which were beyond operation conditions. During last four tests within warranty limits on thrust and fuel component ratio, the engine worked for over 3000 seconds, which exceed 11 rocket’s on-orbit lifetimes. New development has the highest propulsive burn among all existing oxygen-kerosene engines. The engine also improves basic characteristics of the Russian rocket carrier – its carrying capacity – “Soyuz” can now carry an additional ton of useful equipment.
